Come on a walk with City of London guide Cwti Green from the Old Bailey down Fleet Street and hear about the hangmen and their grisly trade, get to know the heroines who campaigned for unfortunate prisoners and for votes for women. Learn about the history of our language and those who printed it, those who put it into a dictionary, those who went to prison and worse for the freedom of speech.
Sweeney Todd – one of the few victims of the Great Fire of London – Jack Sheppard - the inhabitants of Alsatia – Elizabeth Cellier - the religious men and women and their great foundations – Dr Johnson - the Knights Templar – William Shakespeare – newspaper magnates and journalists – the boy king Edward VI - stories of these people and many more, famous and unknown, are to be found here in this small stretch of London streets and hidden alleyways.
So come and hear about life in London from those who have lived through it, from medieval times until now.

Cwti Green is a City of London guide, and leads walks for the Museum of London and the City of London Education Department.
She is eminently qualified to do this, being the proud possessor of a carrying voice, an Actor's Equity card and a somewhat quirky personality. As well as her knowledge of history and of many fascinating tales of the City of London, she spent the early years of the 1990s doing stand-up comedy in Scotland, because of her interest in the funny side of human nature.
So any walk with her will be a little off-beat, reasonably amusing and on the whole a very entertaining way to spend the odd hour or so! |
